Walk, discover and experience the cheesemaking culture of Vorarlberg at first hand. The Josef-Rupp-Cheese-Trail stretches for around 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) across the Pfänder ridge, offering breathtaking views of Lake Constance and the mountains of the Bregenzerwald region.
Along this family-friendly circular route, thoughtfully designed information stations provide fascinating insights into the production of Vorarlberger Bergkäse PDO, traditional alpine farming and the daily lives of the region’s cheesemakers. The trail brings together nature, agriculture and artisanal cheesemaking in a unique and engaging way, making Vorarlberg’s rich cheese heritage truly come alive.
Also for families, there is plenty to discover along the trail. Play stations, climbing features, a cowbell chime and hidden native animals make the cheese trail a memorable experience for walkers of all ages.
For a delicious break along the way, visit the Alma Mountain Dairies in Hinteregg and Lutzenreute, where you can enjoy their many award-winning cheese specialities. A particular favourite is the Vorarlberger Bergkäse PDO – available to purchase directly at the dairies, including from the self-service refrigerated display open 24 hours a day.
